Mining Site Reclamation
Mining activities have a significant impact on the environment, leading to the loss of vegetation and disruption of natural landforms. The reclamation of such sites is a critical environmental task aimed at restoring the ecological balance and ensuring that the land can support vegetation and other natural processes post-mining. However, the success of these reclamation efforts heavily relies on accurate monitoring and analysis of the reclaimed land.
This project utilizes LiDAR data, which provides high-resolution 3D information about the terrain and vegetation, and NAIP (National Agriculture Imagery Program) 4-Band Imagery, which offers detailed orthographic images of the area. By integrating these datasets within ArcGIS Pro, the study aims to extract precise tree points and analyze vegetative growth within the reclaimed mining site. The analysis focuses on key parameters such as tree height, which is a critical indicators of the reclamation’s success.
